Most wild animals that come to a wildlife rehab center have something that needs fixing, whether it's a broken wing or leg, head trauma, encounters with cats, cars, windows....the list is long.
This hapless little red squirrel came in with two strikes against her. First, she was an orphan, found alone and in desperate need of help. Second, she had fallen into some very sticky tree sap. She was covered from head to toe!
As anyone who has dealt with tree sap knows, it is a challenge to remove this substance from anything, whether it's a car, clothing, hair, or as in this case, red fur. After several clean-up sessions with mayonnaise and Dawn dishwashing liquid, however, this little girl was as good as new!

Black Dog Zen - Carol Chretien

"Black Dog Zen"
new oil

9x12
oil on canvas
CAROL CHRETIEN

(detail)

This new work is inspired by Brady, my friend Tracy's Black Lab boy.
The idea of a beach scene without the water view was fun to do with Brady up on the dune looking out to sea so peaceful...a Lab and the beach is just so right.
The painting is minimalistic to keep that peaceful, simple feeling and the clouds and breeze moving the dune grass give movement while he sits so still.

July 4th Hot Dog, DACHSHUND in Uncle Sam Hat by V. Bridges-Hoyt

ART.  I can't think of anything catchy for the title of #4 so I'll just call it Dachshund in Uncle Sam Hat.  This one fits a double series-- the Freedom series and although it's not an oil painting, it could fall into the Dachshund in Hat series. I always think I'll finish these little jewels in a couple of hours. I should realize by now that it will take longer than I think. It's so easily visualized but it does take some time to translate the vision into a painting. A friend has suggested I call this one "4th of July Hot Dog".  So here you go--

Sunshine Came Softly by Anne Zoutsos

Sunshine Came Softly - 7" x 5.75" (approx) oil on hardboard/masonite

As well as loving dogs, I also love painting and this work was inspired to a large extent by the play of light and shadow on the dog's face and I really like the atmosphere of quiet which is created.

The title of the painting comes from the song Sunshine Superman by Donovan. I had initially wanted to call it 'Sunshine Came Softly Through My Window Today' - the first line - but thought it was just too long (although that's what it is called in my head!)

10% donation to Old Dog Haven once the painting is sold

£67 (approx $110 at today's exchange rate) plus £5 shipping

SOLD

This painting is straight off the easel and will need to dry for several days before it can be shipped

My thanks to Eliya Selhub for providing the reference photograph under Creative Commons
